Americans work their butt’s off for theirs families. They do their best to provide for their families, and pay their taxes to be exemplary citizens. That money we pay the government, we hope its put to good use, wether its for roads or schools etc. we hope its to develop our country in a positive way. Yet, we cant help the fact that so much of our money goes to keeping people in jail alive. We pay to keep the citizen that are not exemplary, alive. It is understandable that jail is a criminal detention facility, but must we pay to keep them in there? The only criminals we should pay for to stay in jail are those that are murderers and rapist, the first degree offenders. Actually, those types of criminals should not even be allowed to live if they took another persons life, so why not give them the death sentence? The death sentence is a form of punishment for the criminals that create first degree offenses or worse. That is the ultimate punishment. It began in the Eighteenth Ce ntury B.C. when death penalty laws were first put in place. In the Eleventh Century A.D. William â€Å"the Conqueror† would not allow people to be hanged except in cases of murder.
